On a ketogenic diet, would you count artificial sweetener as a carb or not, ie, would it would it bring you out of ketosis if you ate enough of it?
you'd have to eat a ton of it to affect ketosis

So technically it counts as a carb as opposed to protein or fat?

I'm not on a ketogenic diet. I'm starting a new diet today and I'm thinking about switching over to keto towards the end of it when my carbs get really low. Mainly in the hope of alleviating some of the harsh symptoms I normally get, ie no energy, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc.

And for the record: chewing gum! It helps distract me from the vicious hunger of a low calorie diet.

                • AA tends to have a 50/50 reactions. some people love it... some get absolutely nothing from it. I believe what you are seeing in the people who have big results is you are looking at the correction of low AA levels in those people. Typically bodybuilding diets can be low in Omega 6's relatively due to all the emphasis placed on omega 3s. So I don't think AA will increase anabolism above normal in people with normal levels of AA, but in people who have low levels, it may correct a low level.

                      Hi Layne,
Quick question. What do you think about liquid aminos as opposed to powder form? Thanks.

                      • Here we go again!

Well, this weekend I am officially starting my precontest diet. It will be a 12 week diet, with the competition on Oct. 27th. I checked my bodyfat this morning and I am at 10%, so I calculated 12 weeks should be sufficient to get down to 4% (with an extra week in there for "flex").

I am planning on doing 3 HIT cardio sessions per week for about 30 minutes on my off days. Shooting for a 1 pound fat loss per week (the rest of the calorie deficit will be from the diet).

Layne, I read somewhere that you do moderate intesity cardio at other times during the week as well, is this true or do you stick only with HIT? Want to minimize muscle wasting (but who doesn't ).
